The Ed Video Filmmaker Award
Program Description
Objective:
To facilitate the regional production of independent dramatic and documentary film and video projects through Ed Video Media Arts Centre.
Value of the Award:
Recipients of this award may receive the equivalent of up to $2000.00 in tax-free equipment and facility rentals from the Ed Video Media Arts Centre.
The award is good only for rentals, is not transferable to cash, and is subject to the terms outlined in this program description or any relevant agreements.
Ed Video does not assume ownership of or liability for the awarded projects in any way.
How to apply:
The deadline date for submissions is July 1st, 2006.
Completed applications must be received in full by the deadline date. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Please print your application on 8” x 11” white paper. Electronic copies of applications will not be accepted.

Assessment of Application:
Following the submission deadline, the appointed Program Supervisor will review each application for completion and eligibility, and will prepare the applications as needed for the Assessment Committee.
The Assessment Committee will consider each application based on the merit and viability of the project as described.
Eligibility:
In order to receive the Ed Video Filmmaker’s Award, you must:
- Be a Producer Member of Ed Video in good standing.
- Be the sole Producer on the production team, and hold a key creative title such as Director, writer, or lead actor. Hold all rights or licenses to the content of the project, and have full creative control.
- The project must uphold, and not contravene, the mandate and principles of EVMAC, and adhere to the Code of Conduct and Ethics.
- Applicants must be 18 years of age and be citizens or permanent residents of Canada who live in the region of Wellington or Waterloo Counties, and posses valid ID to support their identity.Recipients may not be on, or related to, the Board of Directors, Assessment Committee, or Staff of EVMAC. This includes workshop instructors, or anyone who has held a position on EVMAC’s BOD or staff in the 365 days preceding the program application deadline.
- The Producer is responsible for the adherence of the project to ethical productions practices. These include: Using only those materials which he/she holds the rights to; creating reasonable, clear and legally applicable contracts with crew, talent and contributors; acting with regard for the safety and well-being of all involved; adherence to all applicable laws and statutes.
- An applicant may not submit an application for the same project twice, nor may they receive awards in two consecutive award periods.
An applicant may submit as many as 2 Award applications per award period.
Projects can not be awarded when the project is receiving funds or support from another granting agency or artist centre, except by a special ruling of the Board of Directors.
Terms and Conditions:
Award Recipients must:
- Sign for any rentals and be present at the time of pick up and drop off.
- Assume any liabilities associated with the project
- Be responsible for the proper and ethical hiring and accreditation of all crew and talent, as well as for ethical and lawful set practices.
- Volounteer to sit on the next contest’s Assessment Committee.
- Maintain contact with the Program Supervisor and keep EVMAC aware of developments in the production.
- Complete the project within 1 year of receiving the award.
- Consult with EVMAC or the Program Supervisor when encountering obstacles to the completion of the project by the deadline.
- Submit a finished copy of the project by the deadline.
- Be responsible for all costs not covered by the Program.
Guidelines:
All support materials must be received by the submission deadline in one package. SUPPORT MATERIALS WILL NOT BE RETURNED TO YOU.
Applicants will be notified when the Assessment process is complete and their materials are available for pickup. Support materials will be held for a limited time, and then discarded appropriately.
Applications should be printed or written on legal size (8.5’ x 11’) white paper. You may not submit your application via fax, email or computer disc.
Illegible applications will not be considered.
Written portions of the applications should represent clearly the nature and execution of the project.
Audiovisual support materials should demonstrate your ability to work in film or video and show the Assessment Committee your particular approach to creating film or video art. This may include previous professional or student productions, work produced in workshops, or work produced in collaboration with other artists.
Please send a MAXIMUM of two items on VHS, DVD or Mini-DV.
Ensure that all media function properly. If your media does not function, your application will be considered without it. Due to time constraints, the Assessment Committee may be able to view only portions of your work. To maximize the time the committee has to view your submissions, please cue the tapes to the start of the work you wish to present.
