Description

Is there a story in your life that you’ve always thought would make for a great doc? Is there a person, thing, or issue that you want to highlight, and documentary is the right medium to do that?

But at the same time, you don’t want to become a professional documentary maker?

If so, this workshop is meant for you. Not everyone with a doc concept wants to master professional video technology, or invest time into lengthy research and prep, and not every person who makes a doc has dreams of the big screen or distribution.

Some of us just have a story to tell.

Workshop Outline

This full-day session will provide participants with:

  • a better understanding of the basic technology they can utilize to make their project, some of which may already be at their disposal.
  • a better understanding of the core concepts of community/personal/activist documentary making, including structure, ethics, and planning
  • experience filming an interview
  • experience conducting an interview
  • experience recording VO
  • an understanding of how to build a story that is complemented with visuals
  • an overview of how to assemble a project in editing

Participants are invited to bring their own cameras, cell phone cameras, etc, but absolutely zero device or software specific instruction will be provided during the class.

The session begins at 9am and ends at 6pm. There will be a one-hour break for lunch.
