What do I need to know about using this item?
As jib arms go, the DV Crane II is extremely portable, but it is still a lot of weight to carry over a long distance and it won't fit in your Smart Car or in the basket of your bicycle. You can fit it in the back of most cars if you fold the back seat down, and you'll still have lots of room for other items.
Balance is everything with this gear, and so you should make sure you have used the counterweights properly so that the camera and your crew are kept safe. This unit works very well and is very simple to use, but a sloppy set up could mean an injury or the destruction of the camera.
The DV Crane II can be safely used with any of our video cameras. It is not recommended for use with cameras weighing more than 10lbs, or with a camera accessorized by the Redrock Lens Adapter Kit.
Finally, the benefit of the DV Crane II is that it can put the camera in places where camera operators can't dream of reaching. The downside of the DV Crane (and any jib arm) is that it puts the camera in places where camera operators can't dream of reaching. It is a very good idea to bring a monitor for framing and focus purposes, or to use a camera with auto-focus functions.
