In this month’s Image Makers session we are diving into the gritty yet stylish world of film noir! Join us as we work together to recreate a film noir-styled image by experimenting with lighting, cameras and colour-grading! While no formal instruction is provided, this session is a great chance to meet new collaborators, try new techniques, push one another to new levels, and keep skills fresh.

Creating 3D Scenes in Blender

This beginner-friendly workshop teaches participants how to create 3D scenes in Blender using free optimized photo scans found on Sketchfab. Participants will learn basic viewport navigation, how to use Blender’s asset browser as well as its object and camera manipulation functions. No previous experience with 3D or digital art is required. 

Participants will need a laptop, a scroll-wheel mouse and a free download of Blender. You can download Blender for free here: https://www.blender.org/download/#:~:text=Blender%20is%20Free%20Software.

Ed Video has a limited amount of laptops available for members to use during the workshop. Please email workshops@edvideo.org if you wish to use one.

Intro to Camera Operation

 

Intro to Camera Operation

Tuesday, April 18th 6:30-8:30PM

Members: $25 | Non-members: $50

Using a mix of lecture and demonstration, this session will introduce participants to key concepts needed to properly operate a camera for the purposes of capturing video. This workshop will provide information that can be used in the operation of almost any modern video camera or video-capable still camera/device. Highly recommended for anyone who is starting out in video. This is a good primer for those who want to get serious about video, but will also be helpful for hobbyists.

Topics include

  • Types of cameras and the qualities of each
  • The effect of frame rates
  • Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO and Gain
  • Colour Temperature/White Balance and how it affects your image
  • Resolution: HD vs 4K, and what it actually means
  • Codec basics (H.264 vs MOV, etc)
  • Camera audio basics
  • Setup Demonstration
